About Us
The Harvard Business School Alumni Angels is a global community of accredited investors and business leaders, with 15 chapters in 7 countries. Since 2007, our members have invested over $70M across more than 300 companies.

Our angel investor members are Harvard Business School and other Harvard University alumni who invest on an individual basis.
No affiliation to Harvard is required to pitch.

We are part of the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California (HBSA/NC), a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit, and affiliated with HBS Angels chapters around the world.
Our Investor Community
The HBS Alumni Angels of Northern California consists of current and former executives, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists with a serious interest in investing their money, expertise, and time into high-potential entrepreneurial ventures in order to facilitate their growth.
As one of the most active of the HBS Alumni Angels chapters, we provide a forum for Harvard alumni to connect with, learn about, and invest in quality early-stage companies located predominantly in Northern California. Key benefits of HBSAA membership include:

-
Access to High Quality Deals: The opportunity to invest in the most exciting new startups in the Silicon Valley and worldwide. Since inception, 84% of selected companies have received an add-on investment or were acquired.
-
Investor networking and education: Networking with other angel investors, venture capitalists, and business leaders through our quarterly pitch events, conferences, seminars, and educational webinars.
-
Deep due diligence experience: Access to our members’ personal expertise and independent due diligence on deals, as well as their syndication with other angel investment groups and venture funds.
-
Entrepreneur mentorship: Programs to connect investors with entrepreneurs for mentorship and networking.

If you are an accredited investor with a Harvard affiliation we invite you to join our community:
Our Investment Process
The HBS Alumni Angels’ Selection Committee reviews 50+ deals each quarter and selects between 7 and 10 of the most promising to be invited to present at each quarterly meeting.
The Selection Committee reviews the companies with the following criteria:

-

-
Markets include internet, software, social networking, security enterprise, cloud, medical device, bio-technology, alternative energy, consumer goods, and other markets targeted by institutional investors
-
Operates in a large and/or growing market with a barrier to entry (e.g., an intellectual property position)
-
Has demonstrated proof of concept and can articulate the revenue strategy clearly. Priority goes to applicants with revenue traction, such as users, clients, and customers
-
Has an unique competitive advantage over other companies or competitors in the space
-
Has a strong founder and senior management team with compelling presentation and delivery skills
-
Can articulate an exit strategy
-
Is located or plans to locate in the Northern California area

Each quarter, the selected companies will be invited to present at that quarter’s meeting for the HBS Alumni Angels members. Members interested in investing will then pursue due diligence, either individually or as a group, and make investment decisions individually.
